EAA Chapter 15 Poker Run - BBQ/Cook-Out

The Poker Run is back! You can start from your base airport and travel to the airports in any order. The final destination is Lewis Airport. It MUST be the last airport on your flight plan. Requests ran high to schedule the run on a Sunday. Lets hope for no rain!!!

We are keeping the airports within a reasonable distance so that even the slowest plane can make all of them with ease and in time.

  1. The event takes place on Sunday, October 20th, 2019 starting at 10am. Cards will be available at each airport beginning at 8am.The cards will only be available that day at each airport. If the event is postponed due to weather, the reschedule date will be Sunday, October 20th, 2019.
  2. To participate in the poker run, it is highly recommended to pre-register.  Pre-registration for the poker run will be taken online until Saturday, October 19th, 2019 at 5:00 pm.
  3. Pre-register HERE
  4. The entrance fee is $20.00 per hand and is due at the end of the days run at Lewis Airport. The entry fees are due no later than 1:00pm.
  5. If you plan to play 2 hands, please only take 1 card at the airports. A second set of 5 decks will be at Lewis to purchase your second hand. If you play 2 hands, you must purchase before opening your first set of cards. Entry is due at the same time as the first hand.
  6. You do not need to fly the entire route BUT you'll be short cards for your hand.
  7. Your entry fee will include food at the BBQ/Cook-Out.

If are unable to fly, you have 2 options to play

  1. You can have a pilot pick up your cards for you at all of the airports. Please arrange this ahead of time with a pilot or we can help you arrange it with a Chapter 15 Pilot. We would need to know by Friday NOON if you need someone to pick up your cards.
  2. You can purchase a hand at Lewis Airport. There will be extra cards available.

If you are coming just for the food, it will be a $10 'donation' for Adults, $6 for kids 12 & Under.

Lewis Airport (KLOT) is the final destination. Participants hand in their sealed cards and join the BBQ/Cook-Out.

So!  How about it?  Come join us for the EAA 15 Poker Run/BBQ!

UPDATE: All players take only 1 card at each airport. If you would like to play a second hand, we will have 5 more decks at Lewis to which you can purchase a second hand for $10. We are doing this just in case we get more participants than expected. This is on a honor system and we hope people will respect the other pilots that fly in behind them.

Frequently Asked Question:

Q: When will we know the event is postponed due to weather?
A: The forecast will be monitored starting on Wednesday. If there is a chance of rain in the forecast when checked on Saturday afternoon, we will send out emails to those who have pre-registered. Also, the website and Facebook page will be updated. It's best to pre-register so you'll receive an update without having to check online. The rain date will be Sunday October 27th. If that date is rained out, the run may not be rescheduled in 2019. We'll start working on 2020!

Q: Can I start my run at 8am and fly to 4 airports, then park my plane and drive to Lewis?
A: Yes. As long as you arrive and have your cards and fee submitted no later than 1:00pm.

Q: What if I arrive at an airport and they do not have any cards available?
A: There will be at least 52 cards available at each airport. If you are one of the last pilots and do not receive a card, we will have an extra deck for that particular airport at the final destination, Lewis.

Q: What if I'm done with the run by 10am? What should I do?
A: There are several options. The course should take roughly under 2 hours to complete (landing, obtaining the card, taxing, departing) You can:

  1. Hang out at Lewis until the food is served at 12:30pm. (if you do, we may ask you to help!)

  2. Land at your departing airport and drive to Lewis.

  3. Continue flying until we're ready on the ground.

  4. Maybe consider starting your run a little later in the morning if your calculations predict you'll be finished too early.

Q: What if I only fly to 3 of the other airports, will I be able to play?
A: Yes, as long as your hand is submitted by 1:00pm at Lewis. But you will only have 4 cards to play with. You may buy a 5th card as per the rules listed. So the most cards you can play form the run would be 8... which is isn't bad at all.

More Questions and answers will be posted as they are submitted.
